"The name Propeller was chosen with the idea that it would somehow "propel” us to new heights of creativity and success”, Gideon Tomaschoff remembers. Now 20 years later Propeller gallery-- albeit with a much expanded roster and a new hip location in the Triangle Lofts building -- is still thriving.
Propeller celebrates its 20th year of operations with a doors-open tribute showcasing the gallery's alumni and current members from March 23rd to April 3rd. The opening reception will be held Thursday, March 24th from 6:30 - 9:30 and is a must for anyone involved in the Toronto artscene.
Were you one of those founding members? Or a member anytime during the last 20 years? We'd love you to share photos or hear stories from that time. Please feel free to post on the comments section below or simply email the gallery so that we might include your photos in our archives in time for the exhibition. Please click on the blog post heading to view all comments and post your own!
As one of Toronto's longest standing artist collectives, Propeller has maintained robust programming that has been uniquely inclusive, diverse, and imaginative. Now in its new location at 30 Abell Street in the Triangle Lofts building, Propeller's mandate continues to be "Artists Empowering Artists".
The Anniversary Retrospective Exhibition honours the amazing painters, photographers, sculptors and media artists who have worked with Propeller over 20 years and helped to lead the Queen West Art scene to its current status as one of the most vibrant cultural centres in Toronto.
